Formerly known as Google Ventures, GV is the investment arm of Alphabet Inc. Although Alphabet is its sole limited partner, the VC operates independently from Google. It invests in seed, venture and growth-stage funding rounds with more than 300 companies in its portfolio worth over $5bn. Headquartered in California’s Mountain View, GV has offices in San Francisco, Boston, New York and London. The VC has been actively involved in Silicon Valley’s investment rounds for prominent startups like Uber, Slack, Ripple, Impossible Foods, Lime and Medium.

Founded in 1998 by Larry Page and Sergey Brin, Google started out as a web search engine. It then grew into a provider of various web services (e.g., email, web publishing) and subsequently became one of the world’s biggest tech companies, standing alongside Apple, Microsoft and Amazon. As an investor, Google is notably one of the earliest investors in Chinese internet giants Baidu and Meituan-Dianping.

Founded by Dr. Kai-Fu Lee, famous venture capitalist in China. Lee is the former associate professor of Carnegie Mellon, former vice president of Apple’s web products division, former vice president of interactive services division at Microsoft, and former vice president of Google. Horizons Ventures is a Hong Kong-based venture capital firm that manages the personal investments of Li Ka-shing, one of Hong Kong’s richest businessmen. Horizons’ investments cover a wide range of tech, media, and telecommunications companies. Standouts include artificial intelligence company DeepMind (acquired by Google in 2014), plant-based meat replacement makers Impossible Foods, and video conferencing software Zoom. It has also backed consumer-facing businesses like Atomo Coffee in Australia, Kopi Kenangan in Indonesia, and US-based distilled spirits company Endless West.

Ex-Googler David Ko (Gao Heng) holds a BS in Computer Engineering from Washington University. After graduation, he joined two startups in succession of which the latter was acquired by Google. He joined Google US and was appointed to the Shanghai Office in 2011 where he served as staff software engineer. In his eight years at Google, he worked on a number of projects, including WebCrawler, Google Finance, Google Suggest, cloud input method, AdWords.

Formerly known as Google Ventures and established in 2009, GV is the VC arm of Alphabet, Inc. and stresses that it invests in the “best companies, not strategic investment for Google”. GV is headquartered in Mountain View, California, with offices in San Francisco, Boston, New York, and London and it currently has over US$3.5 billion under management. It has invested in more than 600 companies across different sectors and stages, with more than 160 as lead investor and has seen 120 exits.  Its recent investments include in Lemonade and KeepTruckin's Series D rounds and in Harness' Series B.

Another “haigui” (Chinese overseas returnee), Ben Luk (or Lu Yunsheng) had worked at Microsoft and Oracle before joining Google in 2003. At Google, he held different positions in the US global headquarters, and the Beijing and HK offices. Luk led the development of Google Maps APAC. He holds a BS in Computer Science, Cornell University; and an MS in Computer Engineering, Stanford University. 

Singapore-based VC Jungle Ventures set up its SeedPlus fund in 2016. The SGD 25m fund is backed by a diverse range of investors including Eight Roads, Infocomm Investments, Accel Partners, RNT Associates, SGInnovate and Cisco. A fund run by Jungle Ventures partner and Indian tycoon Ratan Tata has also contributed to SeedPlus.Early-stage investments of SGD 0.5–1m are available for startups in Southeast Asia. The fund also provides hands-on expertise and support services, including resources from partners like Google SEA and PwC Singapore.

Award-winning Sheetgo offers state-of-the-art data management and spreadsheets using cloud technology to avoid costly mistakes, manual maintenance and accessibility issues. 

Stanford-educated Chau joined Google in 2000 as its 103rd staff, and was the first engineer on AdWords, RPC, Google Talk, among other projects, with expertise in Android development. He left Google in 2008 and became an angel investor. Among the companies in his portfolio, most failed except Lightinthebox.com, which went public on NYSE in 2013. Chau holds a BS in Electrical Engineering from Hong Kong University of Science & Technology; and an MS in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University.

Kevin Lee is an ex-Googler and co-founder of Ajaib, an online investment advisory startup. In 2016, he graduated from Cornell University with a bachelor’s in computer science. Upon graduation, he joined Google as a software engineer with the Google Assistant development team. Two years later, he joined university schoolmate Anderson Sumarli to establish Ajaib.

Originally formed in 2014 as NSI Ventures, Openspace Ventures makes investments in technology companies based in Southeast Asia. Led by Shane Chesson and Hian Goh, Openspace Ventures used to be a part of Northstar Group, a private equity firm primarily invested in the financial services, retail, energy and telecom sectors. In 2018, Chesson and Goh took NSI Ventures independent and rebranded it as Openspace Ventures. They still maintain links with Northstar, with Northstar managing partner Patrick Goh becoming senior advisor to Openspace.

Prosperity7 Ventures is the $1bn diversified VC fund of Aramco Ventures, a subsidiary of Aramco, the world's leading integrated energy and chemicals company. The fund's name derives from “Prosperity Well", the 7th oil well drilled in Saudi Arabia and the first to strike oil. Prosperity7 Ventures invests globally, focusing on highly scalable startups in the US and China.

Zhao worked at Google and Baidu as a search engine product manager and at Mobvoi as a B2B product manager prior to founding Dr. White.

During his time at Telkom University, Muhammad Mufid Luthfi was an active student; with internships at startups like Tokopedia and Kitabisa, as well as student ambassador roles with Google and Mozilla. In 2015, he co-founded two businesses: Rias Pesta, a wedding services firm based in Riau, and IDCloudHost, a web hosting service startup.Mufid graduated in 2016 with a degree in Information Systems. He is also a trainer at Google Indonesia’s GAPURA program and a business development advisor at Gamebrott, a gaming news portal.
